What fits in each size of storage unit we rent.
The most common mistake is renting a unit that is too small. Make a list of the large items first, such as beds, couches and appliances, and then count boxes. If you are between two sizes, the larger one usually saves you a second trip. The drawings below show each unit loaded, with a six-foot person at the door.
10 x 10 storage unit
100 square feet, roughly the size of a standard bedroom. It fits the contents of two full bedrooms, including several small to medium-sized boxes, and items such as mattress sets, sofas, chests of drawers, bookcases, and desks.

How to get more into your unit
- Take beds and tables apart and stand mattresses and couches on end.
- Use boxes of the same size so they stack well, with the heavy ones on the bottom.
- Fill dresser drawers and appliances with small items.
- Leave a walkway down the middle so you can reach the back.
- Put the things you will need first near the door.
